The author develops a general theory for dynamic population epidemic models in which infectives move among the populations and can infect only with their current population. Both the deterministic and stochastic versions and the relationship between them are discussed. The author has made an in depth analysis of their threshold behaviour and their final outcomes. He has considered velocities of spread of infection when the populations have a spatial structure. He has also provided a criterion for finding the equivalent contact distribution epidemic for any given dynamic population epidemic. He has compared the properties of his model with those of equivalent contact distribution models.
