The purpose of the paper is to give an alternative proof of the following Theorem: Let \(G\) be a quasithin non-Abelian finite simple group of characteristic 2 type in which each 2-local subgroup is solvable. Then \(G\) is isomorphic to one of the following groups: \(L_ 2(p)\) where \(p\) is a Fermat or Mersenne prime \(>4\), \(L_ 2(2^ n)\), \(Sz(2^{2n-1})\), \(U_ 3(2^ n)\), \(n>1\), \(U_ 3(3)\), \(L_ 3(3)\), \(A_ 6\), \(M_{11}\), \(^ 2F_ 4(2)'\). This theorem (which is an important part of the classification of finite simple groups) has been proved earlier by Z. Janko (1972, thin case) and F. Smith (1975, the case \(e(G)=2\)). They used Thompson's method from the \(N\)-groups classification while in the paper under review the authors apply the so-called ``pushing-up theorem''.
