The perturbation \(T\) of the selfadjoint operator \(A\) in a Hilbert space \(H\) is called singular if the set \(\ker T\) belongs to the domain \(D(A)\) and is dense in \(H\). A large number of perturbations of the Laplace operator \(\Delta\) is given in \(L^ 2(R^ 3)\) by the potentials with support of Lebesgue measure zero. The typical rank-one singular perturbations of \(-\Delta\) are given by the Dirac \(\delta\)-function. In this work the author attempts to develop a general approach to the singular perturbation problem. The results are based on the theory of selfadjoint extensions of semibounded symmetric operators. He shows that for arbitrary rank-one singular perturbations all usual problems may be solved in an explicit form.
