The Knizhnik-Zamolodchikov equation is a first order partial differential equation for a function of several complex variables with values in \({\mathfrak g}\otimes {\mathfrak g}\), where \({\mathfrak g}\) is a Lie algebra. It involves a solution \(r\in{\mathfrak g}\otimes{\mathfrak g}\) of the classical Yang-Baxter equation with spectral parameters. The author determines the monodromy of the solutions for certain choices of \(r\), and shows that they lead to representations of algebras of Birman-Wenzl type.
