Using a well-known theorem of \textit{W. Barthel} [J. Reine Angew. Math. 212, 120--149 (1963; Zbl 0115.39704)], the author characterizes the homogeneous connections by completeness and 1-homogeneity of their holonomy maps. After that he investigates the osculation of homogeneous connections by linear ones on the vertical bundle, and shows that the osculating connections are just the Berwald-Hashiguchi connections known from Finsler geometry. The arena of the whole study is a general real vector bundle of finite rank, more precisely its ``slit bundle'' (the zero section must be splitted).
