    We consider the Walsh orthonormal system \(\{w_ j(x):\;j=0,1,\dots\); \(x\in[0,1)\}\) in the Paley enumeration and study the convergence properties of the double Walsh series \[ \sum_{j=0}^ \infty\sum_{k=0}^ \infty a_{jk}w_ j(x)w_ k(y)=f(x,y),\tag{1} \] both pointwise and in \(L^ 1\)-norm, where \(\{a_{jk}:\;i,j=0,1,\dots\}\) is a double sequence of real numbers. Denote \(\Delta_{11}a_{jk}=a_{jk}-a_{j+1,k}-a_{j,k+1}+a_{j+1,k+1}\), \[ (2)\quad \sum_{j=0}^ \infty a_{j0}w_ j(x)=f_ 1(x)\text{ and (3) } \sum_{k=0}^ \infty a_{0k}w_ k(y)=f_ 2(y). \] Furthermore, denote by \(s_{mn}(x,y)\) the rectangular partial sum of series (1), by \(s_ m^{(1)}(x)\) and \(s_ n^{(2)}(y)\) the partial sums of series (2) and (3), respectively. Among others, the following is proved. Theorem 2. If \(a_{jk}\to 0\) as \(\max(j,k)\to\infty\) and \(\Delta_{11}a_{jk}\geq \max\{\Delta_{11}a_{j+1,k},\Delta_{11}a_{j,k+1}\}\) for all \(j,k\geq 0\) (convex case), then the sum \(f(x,y)\) of series (1) exists for all \(x,y\in(0,1)\), \(f\) is integrable, (1) is the Walsh-Fourier series of \(f\), and \[ \begin{cases} \| s_{mn}-f\|\to 0 &\text{ as } \min(m,n)\to\infty,\\ \| s_{mn}^{(1)}-f_ 1\|\to 0 &\text{ as } m\to\infty,\\ \| s_ n^{(2)}-f_ 2\|\to 0 &\text{ as } n\to\infty,\end{cases} \] if and only if \(a_{mn}\ln(m+2)\ln(n+2)\to 0\) as \(\max(m,n)\to\infty\).
