The authors consider the problem \[ -\Delta u=u^ p-\varepsilon u^ q \quad\text{in }\Omega, \qquad u=0\quad\text{on\;}\partial\Omega.\tag{*} \] Only positive solutions are of interest. \(\Omega\) is a bounded domain of \(R^ N\) with \(N>2\) and \(q>p\geq P_ N={{N+2} \over {N-2}}\). The positive parameter \(\varepsilon\) is small and the main interest is to describe the behaviour of \(u\) as \(\varepsilon\to 0\), since (*) has no positive solution for \(\varepsilon=0\) and \(\Omega\) starshaped. Earlier results of the authors [part I, Arch. Ration. Mech. Anal. 112, No. 1, 1-19 (1990; Zbl 0719.35004)] for the case of the \(N\)-ball are extended to general starshaped domains, and a number of interesting features of the solution of (*) as \(\varepsilon\to 0\) are proven.
