Several estimates in the literature for the asymptotic distribution of certain generalized \(s\)-numbers (called here (pseudo)\(s\)-numbers) of embeddings between classical Banach function spaces depend on analogous estimates for the corresponding (pseudo)\(s\)-numbers of embeddings between associated sequence spaces. In particular, this is the case for the Weyl numbers in an \(L^ p-L^ q\) setting where the author proves that if \(I_ q^ p(m): \ell_ p^ m\to \ell_ q^ m\) is the natural embedding, then \(x_ k(I_ q^ p(m))\leq ck {1\over q}- {1\over p}\) for \(1\leq k\leq m\), and this estimate cannot be improved. In proving this result the author is led to derive some results about the volume of sections of certain unit balls in finite dimensional Banach sequence spaces, which are also of interest.
