Suppose \((M,\varphi)\) is a pseudo-Kähler manifold, i.e. a symplectic manifold such that \(\varphi\) is \(j\)-invariant, where \(j\) denotes the complex structure on \(M\). Assume \(M\) is homogeneous under the transitive action of a Lie group \(G\) leaving \(\varphi\) invariant and write \(M\) as \(G/H\). \textit{Y. Matsushima} [Nagoya Math. J. 11, 53--60 (1957; Zbl 0099.37501)] showed that there exists \(w\in[\mathfrak g,\mathfrak g]\) such that \(\varphi(.,.)=\beta(w,[,.,])\), where \(\beta\) is the Killing form of the semisimple Lie algebra \([{\mathfrak g},{\mathfrak g}]\), and \(\mathfrak h\) is the centralizer of \(w\) in \([\mathfrak g,\mathfrak g]\). We recall \(w=w_s+w_n\), where \(\text{ad } w_ s\) is semisimple and \(\text{ad } w_n\) is nilpotent. Under the assumption that \(\mathfrak g\) is reductive and the action of \(G\) on \(M\) is effective the authors first prove that \(w_n=0\). As a consequence \(\mathfrak h\) is the centralizer in \([\mathfrak g,\mathfrak g]\) of a semisimple element and, in particular, \(H\) is reductive. They also discuss the geometry of the corresponding homogeneous spaces \(G/H\) in the case when this space is simply connected. They show that \(G\cong C\times S_ 1\times\dots\times S_r\), where \(C\cong\mathbb{C}^n\) is abelian and the \(S_ i\) are simple. Also \(H\cong H_1\times\dots\times H_r\), where \(H_ i\subset S_i\) and \(M\) is the direct product of the pseudo-Kähler manifolds \(\mathbb{C}^ n\times S_1/H_1\times\dots\times s_r/H_r\). A detailed description of the Kähler algebras associated with \(M\), \(\varphi\) and \(G\) is given in the authors' paper [Geom. Dedicata 39, No. 3, 321--338 (1991; Zbl 0739.53040)] along with a generalization of the result above. In [Comment. Math. Helv. 67, 499--513 (1992; Zbl 0780.53047)] the authors prove that if \(M\) is a compact homogeneous pseudo-Kähler manifold and \(G\) is an effective transitive group of automorphisms of \(M\), then \(G\) is reductive.
