    The author considers the Hamiltonian system (1) \(\dot z\in J\partial H(z)\), where \(h\in C^{1-}(\mathbb{R}^{2N},\mathbb{R})\), \(C^{1-}\) denotes the mapping class which is locally Lipschitz continuous; \(\partial H\) is Clarke's generalized gradient of \(H\), \(J\) is the standard symplectic \(2N\times 2N\) matrix. By a solution the author means an absolutely continuous function \(z(\cdot)\) satisfying the system. The main result is the following theorem: Set \(\Gamma=\{z\in\mathbb{R}^{2N}\mid\) \((1/2)(\Omega z,z)\leq 1\}\), \(\Sigma=H^{-1}(1)\), and \(\Delta=\{z\in\mathbb{R}^{2N}\mid\) \(H(z)\leq 1\}\). Suppose \(H\in C^{1-}(\mathbb{R}^{2N},\mathbb{R})\) and satisfies \((h_ 1)\) \(\Sigma\) is radially homeomorphic to the unit sphere in \(\mathbb{R}^{2N}\), \((h_ 2)\) \((\partial H(z),z)>0\), \(\forall z\in\Sigma\), \((h_ 3)\) \(\alpha\Gamma\subset\Delta\subset\beta\Gamma\) for some \(0<\alpha<\beta\). Then there is a constant \(\delta>0\) such that (1) possesses at leat \(N\) distinct periodic orbits on \(\Sigma\) provided \(\beta^ 2/\alpha^ 2<1<\delta\).
