Kostant's formula for Kac-Moody Lie algebras (Q1188277)

Generalizing a result of \textit{H. Garland} and \textit{J. Lepowski} [Invent. Math. 34, 37-76 (1976; Zbl 0358.17015)] the author discusses the relations between Kostant's cohomology and homology formulas and the Weyl-Kac character formula for Kac-Moody Lie algebras. Assuming a Kac- Moody Lie algebra \({\mathfrak g}(A)\) with a symmetrizable generalized Cartan matrix \(A\), the author starts from the character formula and the denominator identities proving the homology and cohomology formulas without an assumption on the reductive part of the parabolic subalgebra. Finally, a resolution of the irreducible highest weight module with a dominant integral highest weight is given, which generalizes the corresponding result of H. Garland and J. Lepowski under the weakened assumption of the author.
