The results of the paper are motivated by the following problem: Find necessary and sufficient conditions for the bijective function \(\varphi:\mathbb{R}_ +\to\mathbb{R}_ +\) in order that the Mikowski-type inequality \[ P_ \varphi(x+y)\leq P_ \varphi(x)+P_ \varphi(y) \] be valid for all step functions \(x,y:\Omega\to\mathbb{R}_ +\), where \(P_ \varphi(x):=\varphi^{-1}\left(\int_ \Omega\varphi\circ| x| d\mu\right)\) and \((\Omega,\Sigma,\mu)\) is a measure space. The author proves, under various mild conditions on \(\varphi\) and the measure space, that a necessary and sufficient condition is that \(\varphi(t)=\varphi(1)t^ p\) \((t\geq 0)\) for some \(p\geq 1\). The methods require investigation of \(a\)-Wright convexity, a new notion of convexity, introduced in the paper.
