A system of two reaction-diffusion equations modeled after excitable media is considered. Existence of a standing wave (that is, a stationary solution) is established. Geometric singular perturbation theory (the invariant manifold techniques) is applied to obtain a standing wave as a homoclinic orbit of the underlying system of ODEs.
