This is an extension of the work by \textit{J. PrĂ¼ss} [Pitman Res. Notes Math. Ser. 190, 339-367 (1989; Zbl 0675.45020)]. Indeed, the proofs of the results obtained here are based on the methods developed there. The authors gave sufficient conditions for three resolvent kernels associated with a linear Volterra equation to be integrable with respect to a certain weight function. The results are then applied to the viscoelastic wave equation in a solid, this leads to results on rates of energy decay. This is a well-written paper that should be of interest to researchers in both integral equations and viscoelasticity.
