Let \(L\) be a linear subspace of \(R^ n\), of dimension \(k\), \(1\leq k\leq n-1\), \(x\in R^ n\setminus L\) and \(A\) a nonempty starshaped subset of \(R^ n\). For \(t>0\) one says that \(x+L\) tuches \(tA\) if \(x+L\) meets \(tA\) only on its relative boundary, i.e. \(t\bar A\cap(x+L)\neq\emptyset\) and \(t.ri(A)\cap(x+L)=\emptyset\) (here \(ri(B)\) denotes the relative interior of the set \(B\subset R^ n\)). One supposes always that there exists \(t>0\) such that \(x+L\) touches \(tA\). The paper is dealing with two problems: the first is to describe the set of all \(t>0\) for which \(x+L\) touches \(tA\) and the second one is to describe the set \(tA\cap(x+L)\), when \(x+L\) touches \(tA\). These problems are treated in two cases: first, for a convex subset \(A\) of \(R^ n\) such that \(\theta\in ri(A)\) and second for the unit ball of \(\ell_ p^ n\), \(0<p<1\). The case of unit balls in \(\ell_ p^ n\), \(0<p\leq\infty\), was considered in detail in another paper of the author, which will appear in Colloq. Math. Soc. J. Bolzai, Vol. 58, North-Holland.
