This book is centered around the Rigged Hilbert Space formalism (Gel'fand triples), which provides a mathematically sound basis for Dirac's formalism of quantum mechanics. After some general preparations about the state space (and elements of functional analysis) the notion of Rigged Hilbert Space is introduced and basic facts are discussed. This is followed by the introduction of generalized eigenvalues and a proof of the Gel'fand-Maurin nuclear spectral theorem. The second chapter is mainly devoted to elements of scattering theory, Hardy classes and theorems of Paley-Wiener type. This is followed by an investigation of Rigged Hilbert Spaces of Hardy class functions and a rather detailed advanced further study of scattering theory. Finally, decaying states are considered and the notion of (decaying or growing) Gamov vectors is introduced. [For a review on the 1978 edition see Zbl 0388.46045].
