In the paper of the authors together with \textit{A. M. Bruckner} and \textit{T. L. Pearson} [Real Anal. Exch. 15, No. 2, 483-510 (1990; Zbl 0728.26006)] the complete characterization of a compact \(\omega\)-limit set of \(\mathbb{R}^ 1\) is given. In contrast to \(\mathbb{R}^ 1\), a nowhere dense, non-empty compact set in \(\mathbb{R}^ 2\) can fail to be an \(\omega\)-limit set. However, the authors have obtained in the paper under review a number of results showing a rich variety of compact sets, including the totally disconnected sets and low dimensional continua are \(\omega\)-limit sets.
