      The authors study Vaidya spacetimes with positive, monotonically increasing mass functions, which are zero in an open set but not broken- linear. These spacetimes contain naked singularities whose strengths are estimated. If the mass function is not \(C^ 1\) at the boundary of its support, then \(k^ 2\text{Ric}(\gamma'(k),\gamma'(k))\) is bounded away from zero for any future directed causal geodesic \(\gamma\) with affine parameter \(k\), which emerges from the singularity at \(k=0\). This result cannot hold if the mass function is \(C^ 1\). However, they present a rather general example for which the Kretchmann skalar \(R_{abcd}R^{abcd}\) diverges along those geodesics if the singularity is approached. They emphasize that their spacetimes need not be self- similar.
