Let \(\Omega\) be the complement of the closed unit disk on the Riemann sphere, and let \(H_ 2(\Omega)\) be the space of functions \(f\), which are holomorphic in \(\Omega\) and satisfy \[ \sup_{r>1}\left({1\over 2\pi}\int^ \pi_{-\pi}| f(re^{it})|^ 2dt\right)^{1/2}<\infty. \] The authors introduce a certain real subspace \(H^ -_ 2\) of \(H_ 2(\Omega)\) and deal with the following problem: given an integer \(n\) and some \(f\in H^ -_ 2\), find a minimum of \({1\over 2\pi}\int^ \pi_{-\pi}\left| f(e^{it})-{p\over q}(e^{it})\right|^ 2dt\), where \(p/q\) ranges over all rational functions in \(H^ -_ 2\) for which the degree of \(q\) is at most \(n\).
