The monotone iterative technique combined with the method of upper and lower solutions is applied to prove the existence of extremal solutions to a boundary value problem \(A(t)\dot x=f(t,x)\), \(B_ 1 x(t_ 0)= a\), \(B_ 2 x(t)=b\), where \(A(t)\) is a real \(m\times n\) matrix \((m>n)\). This extends the authors' previous result for a system with a square matrix \(A(t)\) [J. Appl. Math. Simulation 2, No. 4, 217-224 (1989; Zbl 0697.34015)].
