The author studies neighborhoods of a rational curve \(C\) which is imbedded in a 2-dimensional complex manifold \(S\), whose self-intersection number is 0, and which has only one node. In an earlier paper [J. Math. Kyoto Univ. 22, 583-607 (1983; Zbl 0519.32019)] the author studied the case in which \(C\) is smooth. Under a hypothesis on the topology of the normal bundle of \(C\), the author constructs a strongly plurisubharmonic function \(\Phi\) on \(V\backslash C\), \(V\) a neighborhood of \(C\), such that \(\Phi(p)\to\infty\) as \(p\to C\). Given any \(\lambda>1\), \(\Phi\) can be constructed with \(\Phi(p)/(-\log\text{dist}(p,C))^{2\lambda}\) bounded, but for \(\lambda<1\), there is no nonconstant plurisubharmonic function \(\Psi\) on \(V\backslash C\) with \(\Psi(p)/(- \log\text{dist}(p,C))^{2\lambda}\) bounded. The paper concludes with some examples in the case \(S\) is compact.
