The Runge-Kutta-Merson routine is used to evaluate the solution of a particular set of nonlinear differential equations. For certain values of the parameters the solutions are stable periodically oscillating systems but by varying the parameters symmetry-breaking from oscillating to steady-state non-oscillating solutions takes place. An application is considered from semiconductor physics which provides an example of such behaviour.
