The expectation of a random compact set \(X\) in \(\mathbb{R}^ d\) depends not only on the distribution of \(X\) but also on the structure of the underlying probability space. This phenomenon is at the basis of the generalized Brunn-Minkowski inequality (BMI) for random sets [\textit{R. A. Vitale}, J. Multivariate Anal. 33, No. 2, 286-293 (1990; Zbl 0705.60013)]. Here, the author presents a strengthening of the BMI which concerns the translative expectation of \(X\), a set which is defined as \(\mathbb{E}[X-S(\text{conv }X)]^*+\mathbb{E} S(\text{conv }X)\), where \(S(K)\) denotes the Steiner point of \(K\), conv the convex hull, and \(X^*\) the reduction of \(X\) (a random set with the same distribution as \(X\)).
