    Let \((M,g)\) be a connected real hypersurface in the quaternionic projective space \(\mathbb{H} P^ m\) (\(m\geq 2\)) of constant quaternionic sectional curvature 4. Denote by \(T^ 0 M\) the maximal subbundle of \(TM\) which is invariant by the quaternionic Kähler structure of \(\mathbb{H} P^ m\) and by \(N^ 0 M\) its orthogonal complement in \(T\mathbb{H} P^ m| M\). The shape operator \(A\) of \(M\) is said to be \(\eta\)-parallel if \(g((\nabla_ X A)Y,Z)=0\) for all sections \(X\), \(Y\), \(Z\) in \(T^ 0 M\). Further, let \(A^ 0\) be the restriction to \(T^ 0 M\) of the second fundamental form of \(T^ 0 M\) in \(T\mathbb{H} P^ m| M\) and \(\nabla^ 0\) the induced connection on \(\Hom(T^ 0 M,\Hom(T^ 0M,N^ 0 M))\). Then \(A^ 0\) is called \(\eta\)-parallel if \(\nabla^ 0_ X A^ 0=0\) for all sections \(X\) in \(T^ 0 M\). The author proves that \(A\) and \(A^ 0\) are \(\eta\)-parallel if and only if \(M\) is congruent to an open part of either a tube of some radius \(r\in]0,\pi/2[\) about the totally geodesic \(\mathbb{H} P^ k\) in \(\mathbb{H} P^ m\) for some \(k\in\{0,\dots,m-1\}\), or of a tube of some radius \(r\in ]0,\pi/4[\) about the totally geodesic \(\mathbb{C} P^ m\) in \(\mathbb{H} P^ m\), or of a ruled real hypersurface in \(\mathbb{H} P^ m\).
