The author considers a continued fraction of Poincaré type \[ b_0+\cfrac{a_1}{1+\cfrac{a_2}{1+\cdots}} \] such that \(a_{n+1}\sim \sum^\infty_{k=0} c_k n^{m-k}\) asymptotically. To accelerate the sequence of convergents of the above fraction \textit{A. Hautot} [Appl. Numer. Math. 4, No. 2--4, 309--322 (1988; Zbl 0685.40005)] used a standard Brezinski or Levin sequence transform. The author proposes to apply the Hautot method to each tail \(\cfrac{a_{n+1}}{1+\cfrac{a_{n+2}}{1+\cdots}}\) which leads to an iterative procedure. Numerical examples confirm the good performance of the new method.
