The author deals with the singular perturbation problem \(\varepsilon y''(t)=f(t,y(t))y'(t)+g(t,y(t))\) on \(a<t<b\) subject to \(y(a)=A\), \(y(b)=B\), and in particular with the existence of boundary layer solutions, i.e. solutions of the ODE for small \(\varepsilon\) that mimic the behavior of solutions obtained for \(\varepsilon=0\). Let \(y_ L\) and \(y_ R\) be solutions of the equation when \(\varepsilon=0\) subject to \(y_ L(a)=A\) and \(y_ R(b)=B\). Weak conditions on \(y_ L\) and \(y_ R\) given by the author guarantee the existence for small \(\varepsilon\) of a solution that is approximated by \(y_ L\) and \(y_ R\) in the vicinities of the interval end points.
