    Consider the boundary value problem \(-\Delta u+\lambda u=f(u)\), \(u>0\) in \(\Omega \subset \mathbb{R}^ n\), \(u=0\) on \(\partial \Omega\), when \(f\) satisfies growth conditions \(\approx u^ p\), \(1<p<(N+2)/(N-2)\). It is shown that the number of solutions is at least \(\text{cat} \Omega=\) Lyusternik-Schnirelman-category of \(\Omega\). This generalizes a theorem of Benci-Cerami which treated \(f(u)=| u |^{p-1}u\).
