The paper deals with real functions of a real variable. A function \(f\) satisfying \(\lim\inf_{t\to 0-}(f(x+bt)-f(x+at))\geq 0\) is said to be lower parametrically semicontinuous from the left at \(x\). Lower parametric semicontinuity from the right is defined analogously. The authors prove: Suppose \(a\), \(b\) are different, non-zero real numbers, \(E\subset R\) \((R\) -- the real line) has the Baire property (is measurable), and \(f\) is lower parametrically semicontinuous at each point of \(E\) either from the left or from the right. Then \(f\) is continuous at each point of \(E\) apart from a first category set (a set of measure zero). This result is reached via a generalization of some ideas and methods of \textit{J. Uher} [Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 293, 421-429 (1986; Zbl 0601.26003)] and \textit{B. S. Thomson} [Real Anal. Exch. 15, No. 1, 346-383 (1990; Zbl 0696.26003)].
