We investigate the asymptotic behaviour of \({\mathcal L}_ n(n)\), \(n\to\infty\), where \({\mathcal L}_ n(x)\) denotes the Laguerre polynomial of degree \(n\). Our results give a partial answer to the conjecture \(|{\mathcal L}_ n(n)|>1\) for \(n>6\), made in 1984 by J. van Iseghem. We also show the connection between this conjecture and the continued fraction approximants of \(6\sqrt{3}/\pi\).
