It is proved that the constant, entering the Trudinger-Moser inequality, is attained as a supremum on an arbitrary 2-dimensional bounded domain. In the case where the domain is a disk this result is already known. The main tool in the author's approach is a new functional isometric inequality valid on each given domain.
