The author studies the structure of the moduli space \({\mathcal M}_ L(c)\) of \(L\)-stable rank 2 vector bundles with \(c_ 1=0\) and \(c_ 2=c\) on a simply connected minimal elliptic surface \(S\) of geometric genus \(p_ g\). In the case \(p_ g=0\), the structure of this moduli space was extensively studied in the works of \textit{S. K. Donaldson} [J. Differ. Geom. 26, 141-168 (1987; Zbl 0631.57010)], \textit{R. Friedman} and \textit{J. W. Morgan} [J. Differ. Geom. 27, No. 2, 297-369 and No. 3, 371-398 (1988; Zbl 0669.57016 and Zbl 0669.57017)]), and \textit{C. Okonek} and \textit{A. Van de Ven} [Invent. Math. 86, 357-370 (1986; Zbl 0613.14018)]. For arbitrary \(p_ g\) and \(c=1\), the space \({\mathcal M}_ L(c)\) was classified by \textit{M. Lübke} and \textit{C. Okonek} [J. Reine Angew. Math. 378, 32-45 (1987; Zbl 0608.14010)]. It is known that \({\mathcal M}_ L(c)\neq\emptyset\) if \(c\geq 2(p_ g+1)\). The author proves that \(\dim{\mathcal M}_ L(c)=2c+\lfloor c-1\rfloor\geq 0\) for \(2\leq c\leq 2(p_ g+1)\) provided that \(S\) has two multiple fibres of multiplicities \(p,q\geq 3\). It is well known that \(S\) has at most two multiple fibres of coprime multiplicity. If \(p_ g\leq 3\), then the author proves that the number of irreducible components of \({\mathcal M}_ L(1+2p_ g)\) is equal to \(1/2(p_ gpq- \delta)\) where \(\delta\) is defined to be zero if \(p_ gp\) is even and to be one if \(p_ gp\) is odd. For each irreducible component \(X\) of \({\mathcal M}_ L(1+2p_ g)\), the Kodaira dimension of \(X_{red}\) is equal to \(- \infty\).
