Functions and polynomials over Galois rings (Q1196904)

The authors derive formulas for the number of self-maps of a Galois ring \(R\) that can be represented by polynomials over \(R\) and for the number of permutation polynomials of \(R\). The case of polynomial functions on \(R\) in several variables is also discussed briefly. These results generalize and unify known results for finite fields and for residue class rings of the integers modulo prime powers.
