    The main aim of this paper is the proof of the following result. For each \(t>0\), the operator \[ \exp(-tT_{\sigma p})f=\int_{\mathbb{R}^ n} K_ t(x-y)f(y)dy, \] where \(K_ t(x)=t(\pi| x|^ 2+t^ 2)^{- (n+1)/2} \int_ 0^ \infty e^{-S} S^{(n-1)/2} e^{-m^ 2(| x|^ 2+t^ 2)/4S} dS\), is a bounded linear operator on \(L^ p(\mathbb{R}^ n)\), \(1<p<\infty\), \(n>p\). The family \(\{\exp(-tT_{\sigma p})\): \(t>0\}\) is a strongly continuous semigroup of contractions on \(L^ p(\mathbb{R}^ n)\) \((\exp(-tT_{\sigma p})=I\), \(t=0\)) generated by the operator \(T_{\sigma p}\), where \(T_{\sigma p}\) is any closed extension of the pseudodifferential operator \[ (T_ \sigma \varphi)(x)=(2\pi)^{- n/2} \int_{\mathbb{R}^ n} e^{ix\cdot\xi} \sigma(\xi)\widehat\varphi(\xi)d\xi; \] \(\sigma(\xi)=(|\xi|^ 2+m^ 2)^{1/2}\), \(\xi\in\mathbb{R}^ n\), \(m>0\); \(\widehat \varphi(\xi)=(2\pi)^{-n/2} \int_{\mathbb{R}^ n} e^{- ix\cdot\xi}\varphi(x)dx\), \(\varphi\in S\), defined on \(H^{1,p}\). With the help of dissipative perturbation techniques this result is applied to the pseudodifferential operator \(-(-\Delta+m^ 2)^{1/2}+q\).
