One of the main results in the theory of the Riemann zeta function is the class of theorems going under the name of `explicit formulae of prime number theory'. These give a kind of duality between the zeros of Riemann zeta function and the set of prime powers. In developing the Trace Formula named after him A. Selberg noted that the Trace Formula had a very similar form to the explicit formulae. Motivated by this he introduced a zeta function associated with a Fuchsian group whose analytic properties encapsulate the Trace Formula. Motivated by a choice of test function used by H. Huber in the theory of Fuchsian groups the author develops a special explicit formula.
