      Let \(Q_ 0\) be a fixed cube in \(\mathbb{R}^ n\) with sides parallel to the axes and, for \(f\in C^ 1(Q_ 0)\), let \(Mf\) be its local maximal function. In the paper under review the author proves a ``dual'' result to the well-known Stein's \(L \log L\) theorem [\textit{E. M. Stein}, Stud. Math. 32, 305-310 (1969; Zbl 0182.478)], namely: \[ \int_{Q_ 0} | f(x)| dx\leq 2^{N+1} \int_{Q_ 0}{Mf(x)\over \log\left(e+{Mf(x)\over {1\over | Q_ 0|}\int_{Q_ 0}Mf}\right)} dx,\quad\forall f\in L^ 1(Q_ 0),\quad f\not\equiv 0. \] The author also proves some generalizations of this inequality.
