The authors define complexified versions of quantum groups with Lie algebras of type \(A_{n-1}\), \(B_ n\), \(C_ n\) and \(D_ n\) generalizing the definition given by \textit{N. Yu. Reshetikhin}, \textit{L. A. Takhtadzhyan} and \textit{L. D. Faddeev} [Algebra Anal. 1, 178-206 (1989; Zbl 0715.17015)] for the real case. This is achieved by introducing additional generators \(\hat t_ j^ i\) (the complex conjugates to the usual \(t_ j^ i\)). These \(\hat t_ j^ i\) fulfil an RTT relation with the inverse of the \(R\)-matrix defining the commutation rule of the \(t_ j^ i\). The determinant relation (for \(A_{n-1}\)) and the ``orthogonality relation'' (for \(B_ n\), \(C_ n\) and \(D_ n\)) are the same as for the \(t_ j^ i\). Moreover, the \(\hat t_ j^ i\) commute with \(t_ j^ i\) as if they were \(t_ j^ i\). All the commutation relations can be combined into an RTT relation with a bigger \(R\)-matrix arranged from the original one. The corresponding factor algebra becomes a \(*\)-Hopf algebra \({\mathcal A}\). Then the algebra \(U_{\mathcal R}\) of regular functionals on \({\mathcal A}\), i.e. a certain sub-\(*\)-Hopf algebra of the \(*\)-Hopf algebra dual to \({\mathcal A}\), is defined following again ideas of Reshetikhin, Takhtadzhyan and Faddeev. In the case \(sl(2,\mathbb{C})\) it is shown that one can otain from this general construction, with a special choice of parameters and a redefinition of the generators, the quantized universal enveloping algebra \(U_ q(sl(2,\mathbb{C}))\). Finally, it is shown that in the limit \(q\to 1\) the usual enveloping algebra of the classical \(sl(2,\mathbb{C})\) is recovered.
