\textit{B. v. Kerékjártó} [Vorlesungen über Topologie (1923; JFM 49.0396.07), pp. 224-226] has shown that every periodic self-homeomorphism of a disk is topologically conjugate to either a rotation or a reflection, which was restated by \textit{B. L. Brechner} [Pac. J. Math. 59, 367-374 (1975; Zbl 0305.54014)]. According to this conclusion, every orientation- preserving periodic self-homeomorphism of a disk must be topologically conjugate to some rotation with a turning range \(2k\pi/m\) radian (where \(m\) and \(k\) are relatively prime positive integers, \(m\geq k\)), and every orientation-reversing periodic self-homeomorphism of a disk must be topologically conjugate to a reflection, and hence its period is 2. In an earlier paper [Sci. China, Ser. A 34, No. 9, 1057-1067 (1991; Zbl 0744.57009)] we investigated general orientation-preserving periodic self- homeomorphisms of any 2-dimensional orientable compact manifold. In this note we discuss general orientation-reversing 2-periodic self- homeomorphisms of 2-dimensional orientable closed manifolds (i.e. of orientable closed surfaces).
