A new space-marching method for the integration of the Euler equations is developed. It is robust and can deal with more complicated configurations. The Euler equations are formulated quasi-conservatively and a split-matrix method is used in order to apply a proper upwind discretisation. The eigenvalues and the eigenvectors of the rather complicated hyperbolic system in space are calculated. The bow shock is fitted using the Rankine-Hugoniot equations together with the suitable characteristic compatibility equation. The calculation of the flow variables at the wall is carried out by using a modification of the ``post correction'' technique which is explained in detail. The finite difference equations have been solved by applying a three-step Runge- Kutta scheme, which was also successfully used for the solution of the time-dependent Euler equations.
