A systematic method is presented for linearizing two-dimensional (algebraic completely) integrable systems. The main techniques come from algebraic geometry, especially the theory of Jacobians and their Kummer surfaces. We use this linearization to construct explicit action-angle variables and Lax pairs for these systems, thereby providing a systematic way for their construction. The methods are illustrated in detail on 7 classical and more recent examples and are seen to be also very effective. In the examples different Hamiltonian structures of an unusual type are found and we show that such structures are always compatible.
