The main results are: Theorem 1. Let \(R\) be a normal affine subalgebra of \(\mathbb{C}[X_ 1,\dots,X_ n]\) and \(V=\text{Spec}R\). Then \(H_ 1(V_{reg};\mathbb{Z})\) is a finite group. If further \(R\) is generated by monomials in \(X_ 1,\dots,X_ n\) then \(\pi_ 1(V_{reg})\) is a finite abelian group. Theorem 2. Let \(V=\mathbb{C}^ n//G\) where \(G\) is either an algebraic torus, or is semisimple. Then the logarithmic Kodaira dimension of \(V_{reg}\) is \(-\infty\). Im both cases it follows that if the variety \(V\) is two dimensional then \(V\) is the quotient of \(\mathbb{C}^ 2\) by a finite subgroup of \(GL(2,\mathbb{C})\).
