In this article the author stresses some similarities between the calculi of Euler and Lagrange to contrast with the well-known differences. The contexts chosen include commutativity of partial differentiation, infinite series, the calculus of variations, discontinuities (as then understood) of functions, and complex-variable analysis. Some considerations of the generality of their methods are also given. Some writings of d'Alembert are cited; he marks the chief point and source of difference between Euler and Lagrange.
