This paper studies weighted convolution algebras on the half line and their corresponding weighted measure algebras, and the issues are the relations between homomorphisms, semigroups and closed ideals; several topologies are considered and numerous general results on convergence of sequences in these spaces are established. However, the main aims is to see when an algebra homomorphism \(\phi\) between weighted convolution algebras \(L^ 1(\omega_ 1)\to L^ 1(\omega_ 2)\) is standard, i.e. maps any norm dense principal ideal to a norm dense principal ideal. A sample result is the following (Corollary 4.6): If \(\phi\) (defined as above) has norm 1, then \(\phi\) is standard. Specializing to the classical, unweighted case \(L^ 1(\mathbb{R}_ +)\) several conditions equivalent to \(\phi\) being standard, when \(\phi\) is an endomorphism, are given. One of these (condition \(b\)) of Theorem 5.8) is that if the Laplace transform of an \(f\in L^ 1(\mathbb{R}_ +)\) does not vanish on the closed positive half plane (corresponding to non-negative real parts) then neither does the Laplace transform of \(\phi f\).
