Separable pure subgroups of completely decomposable torsion-free abelian groups (Q1203514)

The authors investigate some conditions under which a subgroup \(H\) of a completely decomposable group \(G\) is completely decomposable. If \(G\) has an axiom-3 family \(\mathcal C\) of separable pure subgroups over \(H\) and every countable subset of each \(C\in {\mathcal C}\) is contained in a countable completely decomposable pure subgroup of \(C\), then \(H\) is completely decomposable (Th. 2). If \(H\) is knice in \(G\) then \(H\) is completely decomposable provided \(G/H\) has cardinality not exceeding \(\aleph_ 1\) (Th. 3). The results obtained are applied to special cases of homogeneous groups and groups with linearly ordered typesets.
