This review follows the authors in calling those ordered spaces that admit a \(T_ 2\) order compactification the \(T_{3.5}\)-ordered spaces. Among the order compactifications of the \(T_{3.5}\)-ordered spaces, the best-known and best-behaved order compactification is the Nachbin order compactification. The authors call a subset of an ordered space a \(CZ\)- set if it is of the form \(f^{-1}(\{0\}) \cap g^{-1} (\{0\})\), where \(f\) is increasing and continuous and \(g\) is decreasing and continuous. A filter with a base of \(CZ\)-sets is called a \(CZ\)-filter. Using the ground set of all maximal \(CZ\)-filters, the authors construct a new order compactification \(\gamma_ 0 X\), which they compare with the Nachbin order compactification \(\beta_ 0 X\) and the Wallman order compactification \(\omega_ 0 X\). They give necessary and sufficient conditions for their compactification to coincide with the Nachbin order compactification, which are satisfied whenever \(X\) has the discrete order. Moreover, they show that for any subspace of \(\mathbb{R}^ n\) their compactification and the Wallman order compactification coincide; hence their compactification need not be \(T_ 1\)-ordered. They show that \(\gamma_ 0\), \(\omega_ 0\), and \(\beta_ 0\) coincide for linearly ordered spaces and ask for an example of a \(T_{3.5}\)-ordered space for which no two of these compactifications are equivalent. Some hint of the difficulty involved in order-compactification theory is given by the following two problems, which are taken from a list of five unsolved problems posed by the authors. Find conditions on a space \(X\) that are necessary and sufficient for \(\gamma_ 0 X=\omega_ 0 X\). Determine whether \(\beta_ 0 X\) can be represented as a Wallman-type order compactification.
