Suppose \(G\) is a \(\pi\)-separable finite group. Let \(H\) be a Hall \(\pi\)- subgroup of \(G\). By definition, \(\alpha\in\text{Irr}(H)\) is a Fong character of \(H\) in \(G\), if there exists \(\chi\in B_ \pi(G)\) such that \((\alpha,\chi_ H)\geq 1\) and \(\alpha(1)=\chi(1)_ \pi\); in this case we say that \(\alpha\) is associated with \(\chi\). (For the notions just used, see the paper.) The paper (a part of the doctoral thesis of the author) answers in the affirmative the following question of I. M. Isaacs: With \(G\) and \(H\) as above, and if \(\varphi\in B_ \pi(G)\), does there exists an associated Fong character \(\alpha\in \text{Irr}(H)\) such that for every \(N\triangleleft G\), every irreducible constituent of \(\alpha_{N\cap H}\) is Fong in \(N\)? It is shown in the paper that even a Fong character \(\alpha\) exists such that every irreducible constituent of \(\alpha_{S\cap H}\) is Fong for all subnormal subgroups \(S\) of \(G\). A beautiful paper that deserves intensive study.
