Let \(\pi\) be a cuspidal automorphic representation of \(GL_ n(F_{\mathbb{A}})\) where \(F\) is a global field and \(F_{\mathbb{A}}\) is its adele ring. Let \(Adj\) denote the adjoint representation of \(GL_ n(\mathbb{C})\times GL_ 1(\mathbb{C})\). Then for a Größencharakter \(\omega'\) of \(F\) of finite order of \(F\) one can define, following Jacquet, Piatetski-Shapiro and Shalika, an \(L\)-function \(L(s,\pi,\omega',Adj)\). Suppose that for all separable extensions \(E\) of \(F\) the quotient of Hecke \(L\)-series \(L_ E(\omega \circ N_{E/F})/L_ F(\omega)\) is holomorphic except when \(s=0\) or 1 and \(\omega\circ N_{E/F}=1\), \(\omega\neq 1\). Then \(L(s,\pi,\omega,Adj)\) will be entire except when \(\omega\neq 1\) but \(\pi\otimes\omega'\simeq \pi\). The proof uses a ``twisted tensor'' analogue of the ``simple trace formula''.
