We show that differential geometry is a useful tool to deal with certain types of solids with defects. We have restricted ourselves to solids with a microscopically affine constitution. Such solids are realized best by the Bravais crystals. We have chosen this type of solid because it is relatively simple, and therefore also the differential geometry used is simple. This is the well-explored geometry of locally affine spaces. Both the geometry and the statics were discussed in terms of this geometry, making use of the fundamental duality between strain space and stress space.
