In this article the author, who is one of the principal contributors to this subject, describes progress and open problems in the study of the class \({\mathcal T}\) of functions \(f(z)=z+\sum_{n=2}^ \infty a_ n z^ n\) with \(a_ n\leq 0\) for \(n\geq 2\), univalent in the unit disk. A total of 19 open problems and conjectures are given and a list of 107 references makes this survey a complete one. Unfortunately, the article dates back to 1987 so that more recent results are not covered. The following words of the author probably describe best the philosophy in studying the class \({\mathcal T}\): Probably the nicest quality of the family \({\mathcal T}\) is a coefficient characterization that makes many of the computations quite manageable, whereas comparable results for the full family \({\mathcal S}\) can be very difficult, very messy, or very false. In any case, insight may be gained into a problem involving \({\mathcal S}\) or some other subclass by an argument restriction that reduces the problem to one in \({\mathcal T}\). We should not, however, be deceived by the relative simplicity of the family \({\mathcal T}\). As was the case with the Bieberbach conjecture, there are several easily stated questions related to the class \({\mathcal T}\) that appear quite difficult to solve.
