The note concerns the following result by \textit{L. A. V. Carvalho} [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 138, No. 1, 52-58 (1989; Zbl 0669.26002)]: If a continuous selfmapping \(f\) of a real compact interval \(I\) has an \(n\)-step orbit \((x_ 1,x_ 2,\ldots,x_ n)\) (i.e., \(x_ 1<x_ 2<\cdots<x_ n\) and \(f(x_ j)=x_{j+1})\), then it has an \((n-1)\) step orbit \((\tau_ 1,\tau_ 2,\ldots,\tau_{n-1})\) where \(\tau_ j\in(x_ j,x_{j+1})\), \(j=1,\ldots,n-1\). It is shown that this result can be reached using a theorem by Miranda concerning the existence of zeroes of continuous mappings of \(\mathbb{R}^ m\) having special symmetries.
