    Suppose that \(a_ n\geq 0\) (\(n=0,1,\dots\)) and \(0<f(x)=\sum_{k=0}^ \infty a_ k x^ k<+\infty\) for \(0<x<1\). The following author's result is a generalization of an earlier result of \textit{G. H. Hardy} and \textit{J. E. Littlewood} [Proc. Lond. Math. Soc. 13, 174-191 (1914; Jahrb. F.d.M. 45, 389)]: Put \(s_ n=\sum_{k=0}^ n a_ k\) (\(n=0,1,\dots\)). Suppose that \[ \lim_{x\to1-}{f(x^ m) \over f(x)} =\lambda_ m>0\tag{1} \] for \(m=2\) and \(m=3\). Then \(f(x)=(1-x)^{-\rho}F(x)\), where \(\rho=-\log_ 2 \lambda_ 2\geq 0\) and, for all \(t\geq 1\), \(\lim_{x\to1-} {F(x^ t) \over F(x)}=1\). Moreover \(s_ n\sim {1\over {\Gamma(\rho+1)}} f(1- {1\over n})\) and \[ s_{n+1}\sim s_ n, \qquad \lim_{n\to\infty} {s_ n \over s_{mn}} =\lambda_ m>0.\tag{2} \] Conversely, (2) implies (1).
